Closet math

Racks are sold by feel and returned by inches. Count what you actually own, answer two questions, and get the pieces whose rails cover the count. 67 hanging pieces are in the running; shelving and hampers sit this one out.

Count the long things

Coats, dresses, robes — anything that hangs past your knee. A loaded hanger wants about an inch and a quarter of rail.

Count the short things

Shirts, jackets, folded-over pants. Roughly an inch of rail each, and they are happy on a lower second rod.

Anything folded?

The fine print on the arithmetic: rail math assumes garments at rest, not compressed like a checked suitcase. Long pieces claim the top rail; a second rod only doubles the short half of the count. When two pieces tie, the one more people have rated goes first.
